During crisis or disaster, situation reports can communicate the ongoing situation to the public adequately. They can raise awareness for the situation, inform about coping and participation opportunities and establish a continuous dialogue with the public. Nevertheless, from a civil protection point of view it is not known which communication concepts are best suited to present situation reports to and to include valuable information from the public. These issues are addressed by the research project “International comparison of communicating situation reports on behalf of civil protection authorities (KOLIBRI)” using a mixed-method-design and comparing European countries and the US. It aims at developing precise recommendations for a communication concept that shall enhance communication of situation reports by German civil protection authorities in a forward-looking and innovative way.
